Ep 18: Something About Tommy James and the Shondells

On this week’s episode of Something Will Happen, Melissa and AROTR producer Gary Jacob sit down and talk with our 2022 headliner: Tommy James of Tommy James and the Shondells. Tommy James has been making hit music over the span of a 5 decade long career. To say that he is a legend would be an understatement! He has 23 gold records, 9 platinum albums, and sold over 100 million records worldwide.

Gary starts the conversation with Tommy James by reminiscing about their shared history. Back in 1985, Gary booked Tommy James for the National Rib Cookoff event in Cleveland Ohio. Gary tells how that show was the first major act he ever booked in his career. As Abbey Road on the River is celebrating its 20th anniversary, having Tommy James headline this milestone year really brings the journey full circle.

Throughout the discussion Tommy tells us of his early career. He shares the story of how he passed up performing at Woodstock. He talks about his book, Me, The Mob and The Music and even hints about the story coming out as a film biopic. Now that’s a movie we want to see!

Having Tommy James play the festival has been years in the making. The arrangement was originally made back in 2019. Sadly, we all know what happened next. The coronavirus pandemic put a halt on the plans for the last few years. However it is without a doubt that this performance will be worth the wait. Tommy is set to perform Saturday May 28 at 7:45. This show is going to be a can’t miss!
